About this event
Art of Indigenous Americans
Friday, December 1, 10:30-11:30 am
with The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston
Join us on a journey to explore and appreciate the aesthetics of the Indigenous (Native American) cultures of the Southwest through ceramics, textiles, Kachina figures, paintings and more that enrich the permanent collection at The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Learn about the artifacts and their symbolism in shapes, designs and colors that play an important role in their sacred and material functionality.
The session will conclude with an optional art activity involving drawing and coloring a jar/pot inspired by “Olla” pottery of the Zuni peoples. This is a fun activity you may want to repeat with your family. The materials required are paper, pencil, scissors, and coloring pencils (or any coloring medium available to the participant). Optional: extra paper and a glue stick or tape can be handy to learn the technique of creating a symmetrical vessel.
Open to All
Collaboration between LFV & FHNN.
