About this event
The Paris 1874 exhibition features 130 works, including pieces first featured in a now-legendary impressionist exhibition in Paris in 1874 considered the birth of modern painting. Discover the origins of the impressionist movement in France and view beloved paintings by Paul Cézanne, Claude Monet, Berthe Morisot, and Camille Pissarro and their lesser-known contemporaries. Learn about the art norms impressionists were rebelling against and the political and social shifts that sparked their new approach to art. Our experienced guide will be Estelle Quain, a docent of the National Gallery of Art and a member of FHNN.
The Paris 1874 exhibit is organized by the Musée d’Orsay, the Musée de l'Orangerie, and the National Gallery of Art, Washington, where it will be presented from September 8, 2024 to January 19, 2025.
