17th Century Dutch Art, A National Gallery of Art In-Person Tour
Friday, December 13, 11:30 am-12:30 pm
Private Docent-Led Tour: 11:30 am - 12:30 pm
The National Gallery of Art collection includes works by the artistic giants of the era, among them Rembrandt van Rijn, Johannes Vermeer, and Frans Hals, with outstanding examples of the portraits, genre scenes, landscapes, marine paintings, still lives, and biblical and mythological scenes that have made this school of painting one of the most beloved and admired in the history of European art. With the help of an expert guide, we will explore works of art that offer glimpses of life in 17th century Dutch society during a period of social, economic, and religious change and unprecedented flourishing of the arts.
Our National Gallery of Art Docent will be Barbara Schaffer, who worked for many years as a teacher at the American Red Cross in Washington, DC, in the training and leadership development department. Barabara loves to share her passion of learning about art and being around it. (An LFV/FHNN cooperative program.)
