ZOOM DOCENT TOUR: SPACE IS LIMITED. The Smithsonian American Art Museum has one of the finest and largest collections from the last quarter of the nineteenth century, including American Impressionists. A generation of artists studied abroad and absorbed ideas that were revolutionizing painting in France. On this special docent tour, you will see the paintings of Mary Cassatt, Childe Hassam, Frank Weston Benson, and John Henry Twachtman. Mary Cassatt lived much of her adult life in France where she befriended Degas and exhibited with the French Impressionists. Cassatt often created images of the social and private lives of women.Frederick Childe Hassam was noted for his urban and coastal scenes. Along with Cassatt and John Henry Twachtman, Hassam was instrumental in promulgating Impressionism to American collectors, dealers, and museums. He produced over 3,000 paintings, oils, watercolors, etchings, and lithographs over the course of his career. This event is a collaboration between Little Falls Village and Friendship Heights Neighbors Network. TOUR IS FOR LFV AND FHNN MEMBERS & VOLUNTEERS ONLY.
