Varela is a Public Affairs Specialist with the U.S. Social Security Administration, where she has worked for 28 years. The Social Security Administration is an independent agency of the U.S. federal government that administers Social Security—a social insurance program consisting of retirement, disability, dependent and survivor benefits.
